Teaching Taxes

No one taught me about taxes. Professors skipped over tariffs as if the students would never travel overseas on business. International cities dealing with the United States paid attention to taxes, but few Americans place much importance on their divisions of income. Taxes stem from various lessons people take for granted in this country. In my forties, I wrote books about the Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. Goodman represented the mafia in Las Vegas as a Defense Attorney. He worked for Meyer Lansky. Lansky’s nickname was the Accountant of the Mafia. Meyer Lansky represented the original Commission of organized crime. Meyer Lansky was the brains behind finance, Havana, Cuba, and of course, Las Vegas, Nevada. The lessons I learned from the mafia surrounding business plans that paid attention to law, taxes, and a company’s income. Before I turned 18 years old, I was curious about leadership. The world offered so many career choices. Not one Creative Director in the advertising industry mentioned taxes. Not one land developer dealing with real estate. Not one attorney in New York City touched upon taxes. I worked with the best Chairman from Asia to Europe including Members of the Chinese Central Government in Manhattan, New York City. I taught the executives English as I introduced them to American ways and showed the officials around the United States. The Chinese delegation loved our late night walks on the weekend through Greenwich Village in New York City. I did the same thing for the Chairmen from Prague, Czech Republic by taking the business executives to Hawaii, cities along the coast of California, Nevada, and the Grand Canyon. To this day, I trade in Turkey. Representatives from Ankara, Turkey arrive from the capital of the country and I show them the United States. Taxes, I had to find out about taxes on my own by writing about Las Vegas after living with Oscar Goodman for a little under seven years near the University of Nevada.
