Assisted Living
Each day I pass the Assisted Living residents near the university. My mother told me her sister was retiring. The news brought the Assisted Living facilities to my attention, so I thought I would schedule an appointment and walk in. I remember being at the gym once. The seniors in the hot tub talked about their Assisted Living. It was next door, but I would have never known it. I thought the place was a hotel, but the people in the hot tub seemed to live inside. A woman mentioned that it was easier than living alone in San Diego, California. I am always surprised by how many people move from San Diego to Las Vegas. Tourists always hear stories about the mafia in Las Vegas. Men like Lefty Rosenthal, Bugsy Siegel, and Anthony Spilotro. I write books about the guys, but many of the gangsters didn’t live in Las Vegas. They spent time at their estates in San Diego. Now Bugsy Siegel, he died in Beverly Hills, because he rarely spent time in Vegas unless he had to, which is why construction workers got away with robbing him when they built the Flamingo Hotel and Casino. Bugsy wasn’t around to catch the construction workers stealing. The rich in San Diego live in California, but do business in Las Vegas, Nevada. Frank Sinatra, Frank Castillo, and Bob Hope all performed in Vegas, but the leaders called Palm Springs their home.
