USA Center

New York City wasn’t such a great place to live. My apartment was falling apart. The work I did at the Housing Department for lawyers introduced me to people in New York City that admitted, “The plumbing in your building is old. It has to be replaced.” My wife and I entertained the idea of moving to Brooklyn. While researching a boiler issue for an attorney at the housing department, the experts there told me no, “No, don’t move to that neighborhood in Brooklyn. The landlords aren’t keeping up with repairs. The building is old.” I found out that New York City markets itself well. The brand name New York City makes people think they are going to enjoy a lively fun life in a TV sitcom like Seinfeld, Friends, or a reality TV show centered around nightclubs in the fashion district. The destination branding for New York City is a city branding. Old structures, run down apartment, the city of New York still brands itself well. Why not Colorado cities like Boulder, Denver, and Vail? Hollywood tries to help Colorado. Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino made a movie recently. The two stars are detectives. They use a girl to catch a drug dealer. She is worried. She says, “I have to go. My friends and I are headed to Aspen, Colorado to go skiiing.” I hear more about Aspen, Colorado than all the cities in Colorado combined when I watch films. In the movie, Dumb and Dumber, the success of the adventure lies in Aspen, Colorado. The city needs to seek success at managing the cities as a must see destination. Time for Colorado to brand itself as the center of the United States of America in ColoradoUSA.
