Weather in Colorado
Weather men claim the winters are getting longer. My plans after talking with the tour guide south of Denver were to go to Colorado during the month of April. The guide guaranteed that April would be a good month to arrive in the Rocky Mountain region. Now the guide books I read said that winter was a better investment. The cold air keeps away tourist. The book on Colorado claimed that the best deals on hotel prices were during the snowy months. Either way, any trip to Colorado seems dependent on the snow conditions. The weather rules commerce. Industry around trucking, transport, and delivery have to watch the weather patterns carefully, because the tour guide who I spoke to live in Colorado Springs. Her advice was wrong. This year and the last, snow fell until the end of May. That was two months longer than her prediction. How could she be wrong if she had lived in Colorado her entire life? I am not here to say the weather was unusual due to climate change, pole shifts, or warm oceans that change the course of the planet. I am just saying that the snow seems to be falling more than usual, because I followed the change. First, I studied the route from Utah. By driving north into Utah, I turn into the Rockies towards Grand Junction. There was plenty of snow in the forecast. After going to the library, I found a map bragging about the views from Santa Fe, New Mexico into Colorado. I have been to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and New Mexico by heading east from Las Vegas, Nevada. The drive from Santa Fe didn’t have as much snow. The trip sounded exciting. Suddenly the area called for snow. The weather man’s report admitted, “This is unusual for this time of year.” Flights were cheap. Southwest Airlines had their forty year anniversary. Many of their special flights were as cheap as $40 for a three day period. Forty dollars is cheaper than gas, but once I got to Denver by flying in from Las Vegas, I would need a car with a baby seat.
June 2011. Today in June, the heat will reach 110 degrees in Las Vegas, Nevada. The temperature in Denver, Colorado is reported to be at 70 degrees. That is a forty degree difference. There is no snow in Las Vegas. Summer temperatures in the past have averaged 116, 117 in Las Vegas. At the same time of year, Colorado has 60 and 70 degree temperatures in Denver. Winter in March is 70 to 80 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
