Jim Gibbons : Baghdad, Iraq

Assemblyman Jim Gibbons forfeit the safety of staying in Carson City to fly missions over Baghdad, Iraq. He flew for Delta. I took Delta to Frankfurt, Germany, interviewed some soldiers. There is a huge U.S. base in Frankfurt. The city is where all commerce began under Mayer Amschel Rothschild. The Rothschild Estate in Frankfurt founded international commerce, finance, and banking. Jim Gibbons and Delta airline pilots were flying F-4 Phantoms developed by McDonnell-Douglas. Gibbons was making rich friends in high places. Jim Gibbons was awarded with honors. He flew over enemy fire in an unarmed airplane to take pictures of enemy territory in Iraq. Jim Gibbons accepted metals from the military. Washington rolled out the welcome mat when he returned home. Before returning the school, I got food poisoning in Aswan, slipped into a coma for a few days, and recorded my will with a doctor into a tape cassette recorder. The doctor sent the tape to my mother, but luckily I regained consciousness before the mail arrived. I talked to her over the phone before my death notice arrived via postage delivery. Jim Gibbons heroism put the flight pilot on the fast track to local success amongst Nevada voters. He returned to a hero’s welcome. I felt like a schmuck when I got to school. Government officials wanted photographs shaking Jim Gibbons hand. Bankers want to brag about giving the Governor loans. To put the timing into perspective, let us examine the modern day lawmakers in 1991.

Green Door : Reporting from Las Vegas, Nevada

Now as I write this sentence, wives are introducing their husbands to couples, strangers the couples have never met, at the Green Door down the street and around the corner. Folks flew in from Huntsville, Alabama where they swap couples in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday before returning to church service at the Nashville Southern Baptist Church on Sunday morning. You know, the church made famous with the large basketball courts downtown. I know because I interviewed the married couples in Nashville, Tennessee in January 2000. From January 1, 2000 to July 4, 2000, I drove from California to Florida twice. Interviewed individuals from Santa Barbara, California to Jacksonville, Florida; all over from Memphis, Tennessee to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Salt Lake City, Utah. Four of the couples I interviewed showed a pattern that I found interesting, especially when it comes to defining the roles of couples in the United States: Sociology in America; The wives didn’t necessarily want to work at swap couples. The husbands didn’t want to cheat too. They found the exercise exhausting: Meeting strangers. Interviewing couples asking for answers to private questions. Asking strangers about their sexual adventures. There were elements of emotional betrayal, mistrust, and bitterness that would turn to spontaneous snaps of anger, or even hatred that turned to splits and separations bordering on divorce proceedings. So what was the answer after I asked why? The description I received most came down to the couples marrying young.

Carson City : Capitol of Nevada

The Governor was running the State of Nevada; His friends supported him with wives, donations, and political contributions. Wait? Did I write wives? Supported him with wives? Well yes - Investigators heard about a Playboy bunny linked to Jim Gibbons at a summer rodeo. Better yet, she was married to a friend of Jim Gibbons. The friend and husband of the mysterious cover girl happened to be the Mayor of Reno, Nevada. Carson City is the capital, Reno is a little bit north, and Las Vegas controls the southern region. Instead of employment benefits, Jim Gibbons found himself back in court battling his wife. Jim cited a State of Nevada law requiring his home be returned. The Governor insisted his home was the office in the state capital. He held the office. Not Mrs. Gibbons, but Dawn knew how to play. She was clever. Dawn challenged Jim’s petition. Her argument was fantastic for being so simple really. Dawn declare a desire to continue her responsibilities as First Lady. Governor Jim Gibbons had to wait for the court to make a decision. The press continued to hound him. Husbands and wives, divorce arguments over who gets the property, these housing issues took up a lot of attention. Luckily the state had Senator John Ensign. Harry Reid was doing well with his party. People ignored Jim Gibbons and hoped for the best.

The Governors Mansion

Dawn Gibbons divorced Governor Jim Gibbons. The world’s oldest profession is protection. Ask John Ensign. Dawn and Jim keep the courts busy as John Ensign’s best friend move in. Burglars broke into their house. His friend asked if he could stay with John Ensign. After all, this pal was also his aide, lobbyists, and he had a gorgeous wife. So attractive that an extramarital affair began. I was the first to write a book about his lover. As the time of this writing, my book is the only one covering John Ensign’s scandal in Washington titled John Ensign's Extramarital Mistress in Sin City. Ensign’s was slipping under the covers with his best friend’s wife between December 2007 and August 2008. Both couples were employed by Ensign. Harry Reid debated ending prostitution as a liberal politician. Democrat Oscar Goodman disagreed by arguing that prostitution should be legalized and enlarged to spread out to more communities in the downtown area. My roommate just left to go cheat on his second half. Now that I realize as I write at 1:30 am in the morning, his girlfriend is abroad and he just interrupted me as I write these sentences to nervously insist, “I am going to stay at my friend’s house for the weekend.” I followed him to the door to turn off the alarm surrounding the perimeter, let him walk out, set the alarm, and returned to write. The entire time I realized: He is not gay. He is not single. He doesn’t know many people; He must be cheating on the woman he plans to marry now that she is out of the country. Welcome to Las Vegas.

Governor : Elvis and Anthony Spilotro

Dawn Gibbons refused to leave the Governor’s mansion to the governor. Investigators found out about a rumor, a friend of the Gibbons that contributed money to Gibbon’s campaign - His wife was missing. Well? No? Maybe, see his wife was seen with the Governor. Now reporters had to get their stories about the Governor straight? There a mystery surrounding Area 51. There were conspiracy theories about alien’s running the gaming industry with the ghost of Elvis and Anthony Spilotro, because Anthony wasn’t really dead. The famous Vegas gangster hid an imposter in the corn field where he was found buried alive. Between Tupac’s assassination and Bugsy Siegel’s involvement with the Kennedy murders, locals run into a lot of mysteries in Las Vegas.

Post titleLas Vegas Extramarital Affairs

Extramarital affairs in Las Vegas are as common as marriages. We are the wedding capital of the world. Couples arrive by plane to have Elvis marry them under a neon Welcome to Las Vegas banner on the main boulevard. Most couples spend money as they marry. The taxes go back to the state, where the Governor skims them as taxes. Skim? Taxpayers found their tax money going to the Governor’s divorce. First the distraction over the filing. Chaos at home. Then hubby Jim the Governor filed an eviction petition. To add insult to injury, the Governor sought the First Lady’s eviction from Governor’s mansion. Supporters continued to attack him about tax pledges. University professors started asking other colleges out of state if they were hiring. I rented rooms to students and they said university instructors were jumping ship.

Who Pays Taxes on the House?

Dawn Gibbons wouldn’t leave the Governor’s mansion. Divorce papers were filed May 2, 2008, but she sent Governor Jim Gibbons packing. Usually governors deal with budget battles, fiscal responsibility, and issues surrounding higher education. Like most visitors to Las Vegas, Nevada’s governor was living out of a suitcase. The financial crisis that started in 2007 had residences worried. Supporters worried the Governor would break his tax pledge. Eventually Gibbons did, but this was a taxing issue, and maybe Jim was distracted, because Dawn wouldn’t leave the Governor’s mansion. The comedy would have been funny if Nevada wasn’t faced with a financial meltdown. Instead the top law of the land entertained voters with an Abbott and Costello sketch known as Who is on First?

Interviews in January 1, 2000 to July 4, 2000

The liberal lifestyle learned studying in San Francisco taught me not to judge. My career keep me close to the paper with my pen. Combined, education and experience taught me to listen. The confession of the young wives was better said than their husbands. Innocent lost with experience gained, during the interviews, the young ladies described their feelings about trading partners almost exactly the same from state to city verbatim by insisting, “I love my husband. I love my family. We married young. We were kids. I started having kids when I was 15. I graduated from high school when I was 18. By 21 we realized that we had only been together with the same man - woman - together - since we met as teenagers. We realized that we had married young. We didn’t want to ruin our marriage. We are best friends. We didn’t want to cheat on each others. We thought about this.” By this they meant swapping couples, trading partners, or as they admit in Las Vegas swinging. The wives usually spoke for their husband as they continued to share with me, “We didn’t want to do anything stupid. We weren’t necessarily bored. We just wanted to try - We felt like we were missing out - We just wanted to try something new. So we found out about this. Trading partners. We found literature. Books at the lingerie boutique. Magazines for trading partners at the adult bookstore. Now a days, those magazines don’t exist. The ads for adults are posted on the Internet. So that is how we started. We travel over the state line from Nashville to Alabama. Or Huntsville to Kentucky, because we saw people we know in town. By traveling over the state border, we see people we have never met. People we won’t see again over the state lines.” Interviews in January 1, 2000 to July 4, 2000
